November 2nd 2024 and Southampton scrape a home win against Everton in the Premier League. Fast forward 12 months and baring a late, late show against Wrexham, Saints fans have seen 1 win at home. Season Tickets money, travel, food, beer and a club shirt later, the cost of a home win must be sitting around £1200.00 a fan. Just when you think we have hit a new low we somehow manage to lower the bar.
Preston North End are as bang average a side as you will see. All they had to do yesterday was turn up and bag 3 points. Once again, Will Still proved his masterclass tactical nous but selecting 5 at the back and no discernable striker. A system that pretty much sits as a 5-5-0. After the midweek game against Real Madrid it could have been forgiven for giving Gavin Bazunu a go up top. Frankly, he couldn’t be worse than Downs or Armstrong in the number 9 position. The Will Still way seems to be, build up as slow as can possibly be done, wait for the opposition to get numbers back and then labour to the corner and lose the ball. At no point did I even think we would bother to have a shot until Scienza got fed up and tried to win the game on his own. So the inevitable defensive mix up, Keeper floundering and 1-0 down. Then when “chasing the game”, and I put that in inverted commas as did we really ever chase it? We let in another late one.
The football is terrible. We have a team of talent that looks disinterested, bereft of ideas and seemingly no tactics that could possibly mean anything. Tippy Tappy, slow, Tippy Tappy, lose the ball. Enough. I am not normally one to call for Manager’s heads early but when fans are singing “You’re getting sacked in the morning” to our own Manager and I did not speak to anyone who backed Will Still, what is the point of persisting with this? We are a joke. Saints fans have suffered enough. This clown school of a club is going one way and that is down. I am sure there is a good side in these players but it looks like they don’t care much for their boss or look motivated to succeed.
At least we got to see Aribo. I am honestly considering not watching the games now. Last week I missed the Blackburn game as I was out enjoying myself. Maybe that is the way forward until something blooming changes. Get Will Still out. Do you agree with me? Let me know in the comments.
