American Ben Shelton faces Italian Lorenzo Song for a place in the Australian Open semi-finals.
Sonego the older of the pair at 29 has faced no seeded players so far in the tournament. His previous best was reaching the 2nd round at the Australian Open in 2021. Shelton has also had a relatively easy run, but did see off Italian number one Lorenzo Musetti in four sets. The younger at 22, Shelton is the one expected to reach the deeper stages of Grand Slam tournaments.
The head to head shows one victory each. Sonego defeated Shelton in 2023 on the Clay at the French open, but Shelton holds the winning record against Sonego with a win on the Hard Courts in Cincinatti in 2022.
Undercover Tipster Says: Shelton to win @ 1.41 (£10 returns £14.10)
Shelton’s booming serve and powerful style is much better suited to hard courts. Shelton reached the Semi-finals at the US Open also on hard courts and this isn’t a new experience for him. He expects to be here and to win. He will believe he is the superior tennis player to Sonego.
The American enjoys playing Down Under, and is expected to advance to a first semi-final in Australia and add to his Grand Slam semi-final appearances.
