Southern Fried Chicken is to mark the official grand opening of its latest store on Shirley road by giving away free food. The opening event is set for Thursday, 21 August 2025, from midday until 2pm at 301 Shirley Road, with the first 100 visitors set to enjoy a free meal on the house.

Although the kitchen has already been serving up its signature fried chicken to locals for several weeks, this event is Southern Fried Chicken’s way of introducing itself properly to the community. Franchise owner Irfan Ali says the response so far has been overwhelming: “We’ve already built a great local customer base and this launch is a chance to let even more people in on it.”

Founded in the UK in the 1970s and still run by chairman Andrew Withers, Southern Fried Chicken has long prided itself on its family roots and commitment to quality. “This brand has always been about doing things properly — focusing on quality and care. In Southampton, that means fresh chicken, cooked in the store,” says Withers.

The store uses locally sourced ingredients and prepares everything in-house, aiming to bring a fresh approach to fast food. Customers can expect the same standards that have kept the brand thriving for over four decades.

The official launch promises a lively atmosphere and a chance for locals to get a taste of what Southern Fried Chicken is all about. Doors open at noon, with free meals available on a first-come, first-served basis — just one per person, so early arrival is advised.

Event details:
Date: Thursday, 21 August 2025

Whether you’re a fried chicken regular or just curious to try something new, the team at Southern Fried Chicken Southampton hopes to see you there.
