Patriots in Southampton have launched a crowdfunding campaign to buy and display as many Union flags as possible across the city, as part of the “Raise the Colours” movement spreading rapidly throughout the UK.
The GoFundMe page, set up by local organisers, calls on residents to help “show our government that we are determined to proudly display our flags on our home turf despite their efforts to put a stop to this.” According to campaigners, every penny raised will go towards buying flags and cable ties to secure them in prominent locations.
The page encourages anyone interested in volunteering to help put the flags up around Southampton to get in touch, promising that all donations will directly fund the patriotic display.
Support for the movement has come from high-profile political figures. Former immigration minister Robert Jenrick weighed in, saying, “Raise The Colours! 🇬🇧 While Britain-hating councils take down our own flags, we raise them up. We must be one country, under the Union Flag.”
Reform UK MP Lee Anderson echoed the sentiment, criticising local authorities for what he called “a shameful double standard.” Referring to Tower Hamlets Council’s decision to remove Union and St George’s flags while allowing Palestinian ones to fly, Mr Anderson said, “To rip down Union and St George’s flags whilst letting Palestinian ones fly across the city is a kick in the teeth to ordinary Brits and shows utter contempt to the people they’re supposed to represent.”
The “Raise the Colours” campaign has become a rallying point for those who say they are frustrated by what they see as an erosion of national pride. Organisers in Southampton hope the movement will unite residents in a show of solidarity, as similar efforts gain traction in towns and cities across the country.
As the fundraiser gathers momentum, organisers say their goal is simple: to cover Southampton in Union flags as a visible reminder of the city’s patriotic spirit.
