Drivers in Hampshire are set to benefit from major savings thanks to a new eco-conscious service launched by Silverlake Automotive Recycling. The family-run business, based in Shedfield, has rolled out a pioneering scheme that repurposes car batteries from combustion engine vehicles, offering motorists warrantied, recycled replacements at up to 70% less than the cost of buying new.
It’s a move that ticks both the economic and environmental boxes. Traditionally, end-of-life car batteries would be sent off to external recyclers, ultimately destined for landfill after their materials were extracted. Silverlake’s investment in cutting-edge American technology now allows the company to rigorously test, repurpose, and guarantee the performance of these batteries, transforming them into affordable, reliable options for local drivers.
The initiative, which includes a popular trade-in scheme letting customers exchange their old batteries to offset the cost of a recycled unit, has already seen strong public uptake. All repurposed batteries come with a 12-month warranty, ensuring peace of mind as well as savings.
Managing Director Allen Prebble says the scheme is a natural extension of Silverlake’s mission to drive down motoring costs while protecting the environment. “After seeing the latest reuse technology at an international recycling convention, I knew this was a strategic move for the business,” he explains. “We already help motorists save with reclaimed parts and part-worn tyres; repurposed batteries were a natural next step. At a time when the cost of living is biting, we’re proud to offer a greener, cheaper, high-quality alternative.”
The environmental impact is significant. By lowering the demand for new batteries—which are often manufactured overseas and shipped across continents—Silverlake’s approach helps reduce carbon emissions and supports the UK’s Zero Waste to Landfill targets.
With this latest initiative, Silverlake further cements its reputation as a national leader in sustainable vehicle recycling and a local champion for cost-conscious, eco-aware driving. For Hampshire motorists, it’s a win-win: more money in their pockets, and less waste in the environment.
