Reform UK Southampton are shocked and saddened by the killing of Charlie Kirk while speaking publicly at a university campus. He died a martyr- an activist who did not show fear or stop his work despite threats and intimidation from those who did not agree with him.
Charlie had spoken passionately about the state of the United Kingdom in particular at the Oxford student union. His desire for a better United Kingdom was inspiring and should be remembered as a friend of this country. Charlie inspired and educated many millions of people through his presence and while I may not agree with all of his views I respected his right to speak his mind and his respect for his audience.
While we do not know the motives behind the individual who committed this heinous crime; it highlights and echos the concerning rise of political violence and extremism across the western world. Violence should never be the answer when you disagree with someone. We hope that justice will prevail and heartfelt wishes for his family at this distressing time.
