The latest casualty of Britain’s changing high street landscape emerged this week as Sprinkles, the popular dessert parlour that’s served countless ice cream sundaes and pancakes to local families, has closed its doors for good.
Regular customers were met with an unwelcome sight as they approached the once-bustling shop, with windows now obscured by paper – a silent testament to another high street casualty. The closure marks the end of an era for the location, which had become a favourite spot for after-school treats and weekend indulgences. The ice cream shop is currently listed as “permanently closed” on Google. The shop was previously open seven days a week, but has now been closed for over a week.
The news comes as part of a broader pattern of changes sweeping through Britain’s high streets, with numerous retailers announcing closures in 2025. The dessert shop, known for its extensive menu of gelato flavours and elaborate sundaes, had been a bright spot in the local retail scene.
Local resident Sarah Lewis, who frequently visited with her two children, expressed her disappointment: “It’s such a shame. My kids loved coming here after school on Fridays. It was their special treat. Now it’s just another empty shop front.”
The closure follows a pattern seen in other locations, with similar Sprinkles branches in other towns such as Bristol having ceased trading in recent months, suggesting broader challenges within the dessert shop chain.
The shop’s departure leaves a noticeable gap in the high street’s offering, particularly for young families and students who often gathered there. Estate agents’ boards have already appeared in the windows, raising questions about what might replace this once-popular establishment.
At the moment its unknown if anything will be replacing Sprinkles but we will update as soon as we have news.
