Police have launched an investigation after an 11-year-old girl reported being the victim of an attempted rape in Bishop’s Waltham. The incident is said to have occurred in Priory Park, off Elizabeth Way, at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, 23 September.
The girl is currently being supported by specialist officers, and her family are receiving assistance as detectives work to piece together exactly what happened. Officers remain present in the area, speaking with witnesses and searching for further evidence.
According to police, several young people were with the girl in the park at the time of the incident. Officers are now urgently appealing to identify and talk to those individuals.
Inspector Stuart Ross, from the Winchester district, said: “We know this incident will be concerning for the local community, and we are working hard to establish what happened.
“Our enquiries are at a very early stage. We know that people will want to know as much information as possible, and we will share more when we can.
“We would ask that people do not speculate at this time about who may be involved.”
Anyone with information that may help the investigation is urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 44250431539.
