Nothing makes Southampton Times readers angrier than selfish and bad parking in and around Southampton.
Thanks to reader for sending this photo in of this such motorist parked on zig zag lines on the High Street in Southampton. Causing a hazard to busses, threatening the safety of pedestrians and affecting the flow of traffic.
As you can see, the car was parked in-between a pedestrian crossing and a bus stop and readers will be relieved to know that the Police did attend with a tow-vehicle. But that doesnt take away from the fact this motorist is our Parker of the week.
What are the laws on parking on zig-zag lines? The zig-zag lines you see in your photo are pedestrian crossing markings used in the UK (near zebra crossings, traffic lights, or school crossings). They indicate that parking, stopping, or overtaking is strictly prohibited. Their purpose is to keep the area clear so that drivers and pedestrians can see each other clearly near crossings. Enforcement is taken seriously: if you park on zig-zag lines, you risk getting a fine, penalty points on your licence, and in some cases your vehicle may be towed.
The car in your photo is parked illegally on zig-zag lines. So when the Southampton City Centre camera enforcement observed this, the police attended and the driver would have been issued a penalties. A tow vehicle attended but the driver removed the vehicle before it could be towed.
