Well known Southampton restauranteur Kuti Miah has filed with the UK government for bankruptcy on September 3rd 2024. Bankruptcy orders are published on the London Gazette website and show Kuti Miah filed for Bankruptcy on 23 August 2024 with the bankruptcy order going through on 28 August 2024.
The government website lists bankruptcy as ‘Bankruptcy is ‘one way for individuals to deal with debts they cannot pay.’ It adds the bankruptcy process: makes sure your assets are shared among those you owe money to (creditors) and lets you make a fresh start free from debt (with some restrictions).
It’s certainly been an eventful few years for Mr Miah. In 2023 the company running the Kutis Brasserie restaruant at the Royal Pier in Southampton went into liquidation owing 840,000 to creditors. Joytun Bari Limited with director Kuti Miah as director was listed on companies house filings as having debts of more than £840,000 to creditors.
Filings on companies house show Joytun Bari Ltd owes £338,214.04 to HMRCs, as well as more than £270,000 to Mr Miah himself, £40,000 to Southampton City Council and £40,000 to Barclays Bank. Imran Brothers Ltd of Poole, Dorset, is owed £46,000 while Khosla Wines of Hayes is owed £34,000. Asiatic Limited of Barking in Essex is due £20,000, Euro Foods in South Wales £34,600 and Gandhi Oriental Foods of Barking is owed £13,000.
