In a memorable evening of football, italian food and wine as Max’s Brasserie in Southampton played host to Brazilian football legend Júlio César and Saints icon James Beattie in a charity fundraising event that raised £700 for Saints Foundation.
The intimate gathering at Max’s Brasserie on Commercial Road, Southampton brought together football and food enthusiasts in support of Southampton Football Club’s charitable arm, which provides life-changing opportunities for people in need throughout the city.
Max Romano’s established Italian restaurant, known for its authentic Sicilian cuisine, provided the perfect setting for the fundraiser. Founded in 2014, the restaurant has become a Southampton culinary landmark, serving fresh, seasonal Italian and Sicilian dishes in a warm, homely setting. Guests at the charity event enjoyed selections from Max’s renowned menu, featuring traditional Italian specialties prepared with locally sourced ingredients.
The evening was particularly special thanks to the presence of Júlio César, Brazil’s former number one goalkeeper with 87 international caps, who shared stories from his illustrious career spanning three World Cups. Joining him was Southampton’s own James Beattie, who scored 76 goals in 232 appearances for the Saints and earned five England caps during his impressive career at St Mary’s.
The £700 raised will support Saints Foundation’s vital work across their five key focus areas: Health, Education, Gender Equality, Employability and Pathways, helping to level the playing field for Southampton’s communities.
Max Romano, owner of Max’s Brasserie, expressed his delight at hosting such a meaningful event, combining the city’s passion for football with support for local charitable initiatives. The evening showcased how Southampton’s business community continues to play a vital role in supporting charitable causes that make a real difference in the lives of local residents.
