An 87-year-old woman is in hospital with serious injuries following a collision with a car outside a shopping parade in Southampton, police have said.
The incident occurred at approximately 1.15pm yesterday on Rownhams Road, where a green Dacia Jogger struck the pedestrian. Hampshire Police confirmed the woman, a Southampton resident, was rushed to hospital where she remains receiving treatment.
In connection with the incident, officers arrested a 35-year-old Southampton man on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs. The suspect has since been released under investigation.
Detective Sergeant Sarah Thompson of Hampshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We are conducting thorough enquiries to establish the exact circumstances of this collision. We are particularly keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident or its immediate aftermath.”
Police are urging witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward. Of particular interest is any dash cam footage that may have captured the collision or the events leading up to it.
